  1. men already have emotions - thye just try to hide them. fools

  2. His fellow human and his predators. Of course, our precursor ancestors were developing them long before prosimi arrived on the scene.

  3. Social situations. Evolving attachment to other people allows a coherence that is not possible when people don't care about each other. Negative emotions possibly came from a lack of positive emotion.

I would postulate that these emotions were outgrowths of parental instincts, mating instincts, etc.

Saying that god makes emotions possible in man or that man is terrible or brutish without god is offensive to me. I think it takes away a lot of the credit early man deserved for being able to develop into the smart, tough and sensitive human beings we are today.

  4. Probably a social environment, and probably one where a person is surrounded by close relatives, so that helping them would help propagate your genes (because you share genes with your relatives).  Emotions may serve to enhance cooperation and mutual help -- if you smile when your brother does something nice for you, he feels good about it and helps you more, which helps his genes get passed on, too.

  5. Gods presence, outside of that man typically is prideful and will not bow or be subject to another..Christ can make the hardest man humble and filled with emotion--this is from personal experience..

  6. Social group, definitely. Check out lesser primates and emotions, especially chimps.

  7. Interesting question.  Emotions are not exclusive to mankind.  All warm blooded animals possess them.  In fact, only insects are devoid of emotions.

Apparently life itself is the reason they evolved.

  8. I'd have to agree that being in a social group is probably very important, those are good answers.

  9. All animals have emotions. Emotions are instinctual, and evolved to benefit us, weather that be by feeling fear, loss, etc. All emotions benefit both the individual and society.

  10. I think emotions just amplify(sometimes distort) decision making..

  11. A social environment.
