What suv should I buy?

I have a near perfect 98 Ford Explorer AWD v-8 with low mpg. What would be a comparable SUV that would give me mpg in the 20 range?

I am always confronted with this to pencil out. If I buy a SUV for 12-18K it wouldn't really save me anything. I could buy alot of petro for the the difference. Any advice?

Why would you not keep the Explorer if it is in near-perfect condition?

Even if you get a couple of mpg's better, it isn't going to cancel out the difference of what you lose when you get rid of the explorer.

Just keep the explorer and don't worry about getting a new vehicle until you need to.

Ford Escape. Slightly smaller but a great car. I have had two and love them. I would wait to get the 09's...they have better brakes and a few other touch ups from the 08 version. It gets about 20 mpg and is awesome in the snow.
