What symbolism can be said of Meadows?

Question

I have this oil on canvas I did of a meadow as part of our summer project. However, as part of the course our professor wants us to thoroughly analyze our paintings, and wants us to explain the whys and wherefores. I have most of the details covered, but I'm stumped on the symbolism. I wish I could skip this part of the summary, but unfortunately I'll be docked some grades if I do since it's a requirement.

So I'd like to hear what all of you think meadows could symbolize :)

freedom, openness, pureness, purity, gentle, calm, solid, airy, distance, plain, connection fertile, rich, unscarred.  are just some i suppose.

Don't you need to understand the symbolism of it before you "cover the details" considering explaining the symbolism are the details... :)
