  1. I think you mean in the Aliyah and celebration. Bar mitzvah means " son of the commandments" it applies to a person not a thing. He automatically becomes a Bar Mitzvah when he is 13. But in the religious portion of the celebration,

  2. I'm not sure what that means, but tonight is my brother's Bar Mitzvah, so I'll try to be of help.

For the religious service part, it depends when.  Most services happen on a Satuday morning.  The child reads a portion from the Torah scroll (Bible), and then Haftorah from a different book.  There is usually some sort of meal afterwards.  If the service is Saturday night, then we do Havdallah.  The child only reads from the Torah scroll, not Haftorah.  Then we do Havdallah, which involves a big braided candle, a box of spices, and a cup of wine.

The Bar Mitzvah is a time when a child accepts religious responsibility and becomes an adult.  It is the first time a child will wear a Tallit or put on T'fillin, which are both 2 very important ritual objects.

After the service, there is usually a big party.  This is probably similar to a really big Sweet 16.  There's a DJ or band, lots and lots of food, dancing, prizes, speeches, and the classic dance, the Hora (lasts about 15 minutes).  The Hora is a circle dance, and a chair is brought to the middle of the circle.  The Bar Mitzvah boy sits in the chair and a group of people lift him up for everyone to see.  Then the rest of the family sits in the chair and is lifted one by one.

Those are really all the symbols I can think of that make a Bar Mitzvah unique.  Hope it helps!

  3. There are no real symbols connected to a Bar Mitzva. Is your question about decorating at the party? I cannot help you. If you want to know about the significance, go to jewishresourcecard.com for some leads.

  4. i'm not sure what you mean by symbols. a boy who has had a bar mitzvah has taken full responsibility over his actions. he starts wearing tefillin and some boys start wearing a tallis. he can start being counted in a minyan and can be called up to the torah and be chazan. basically, he has all the religious responsibilities of a man.
