  1. The "whit-ish" your speaking about is probably from old wax or wax that was burned by a hot pan.

You will have to clean (sand preferably) the entire table to get an even texture and color again. I have done this to several.

Clean the top with "Zip-Strip" from Home Depot, wash it good and l;et it dry. Then using a No. 80 grit to start with sand with a palm sander and see what entails.

If it's not to bad, you may be able to go to a number 180 grit sandpaper. Keep your strokes even and natural, don't run the sander across the gran leaving scratch marks.

Now, if it looks good. Go to a number400 grit and sand it smooth. You can seal the wood with a Shellac or a wood sealer and then sand once again. Then use a good stain sealer. I use Turtle wax on most tables but, you can buy a good hard wax for this.

  2. well sand it if its a hard wood table than stain it or put something over it or just stain it with woos stainer and hope for the best

  3. White spots on wood are from water damage. If you have scratches or indentations try this to restore the table:

DARK WOOD OR STAIN: Fill scratches with shoe polish that matches the lightest shade of the finish or rub with walnut or Brazil nut meat in the direction of the scratch. A crayon or felt-tipped marker can also be effective.

CHERRY: Fill scratches with cordovan or reddish shoe polish that matches the wood or apply darkened iodine with a cotton swab or thin artist's brush.

LIGHT WOOD OR STAIN: Fill scratches with a tan or natural shoe polish or apply darkened iodine diluted 50 percent with denatured alcohol.

If you don't have scratches and just want to fix the discoloration try using a Blendal wood stain pen (come in about 20 different colors), or Johnson's makes several really good repair products. Any of these can be found at any hardware store.

  4. strip the table, sand out the stains, and restain.  OR.....  put something over the stains.
