As an Italian I can tell you that Squid cooked correctly can be very good!

I have also tried Turtle soup in Tennessee where my sister and brother-in-law now live and it was not that bad.

I really think it comes down to what type of animal are you willing to try and eat?

I catch snapping turtles fishing but have never eaten them. I have eaten squid (Calamari) and I don't like it but would have to pick squid because my Grandma used to make it and we HAD to eat it. It was covered in Spaghetti sauce that was good! Most of us Italians have had to eat Calamari sometime in our life. Never say "No" to an Italian Grandmother!!  lol

you can't compare the taste of squid  to a turtle. They have  their own taste  and not comparable to each other. Turtle is  not just an exotic food  but also one of the classic one. Squid is also one of the best species that has been eaten all over the world. They are both excellent choice.

But turtle is an endangered species...
