What team has had the biggest statistical downfall between two regular seasons?

As an example: In 2005-2006, the Flyers had 101 points at the end of regular season. Then in the 2006-2007 regular season they had 56 points. That is a difference of 45 points. Know that could not be the worst difference between two seasons….so what team has had the biggest statistical downfall between two regular seasons?

Feel free to take a guess.

  1. does the 95 season count?

  2. Carolina dropped off after they lost to the Wings in the 2002 Finals.  idk how much

I also know St. Louis dropped off after the lockout, but that's not 2 consecutive seasons.

  3. The Flyers just missed the Atlantic Division in in 05-06 (they tied with NJ but NJ had it on tiebreaker) and they were the worst team in the league in 06-07.......i would think this is the biggest drop off ever.  I might be wrong, but how much better could the flyers have been in 05-06 and how much worse could they have been in 06-07....not much I would think

I dont recall a team winning the conference or the presidents then becoming the worst team in the league in one year so I think the Flyers are as close as it got.  I think of the Devils who won it in 95 and just missed the playoffs in 96 (had 95 been a whole season) this still would have been close to the meltdown of the flyers

  4. i know the blues had 34 pt drop in the 05-06 to 06-07

The wings had a 40 or so point drop in the early 70s the (dead wing era)

i would have to go the cheap way and say the 94 rangers, i know they won the cup and they had a ton of points (110 maybe? and they couldnt have had more than 50 during the lockout the next year.) so thats a 60 point spread, give or take, so i think thats it,
