On the flip-side, example: In 2006-2007, the Flyers had 56 points at the end of regular season. Then in the 2007-2008 regular season they had 95 points. That is a difference of 39 points. Know that could not be the biggest increase in points between two seasons….so what team has had the biggest statistical improvement between two regular seasons?

Feel free to take a guess.

  1. Well recently the Pittsburgh Penguins.  They went from 58 points in 2005-2006 to 105 points in 2006-2007.  There is no stopping the Pittsburgh Penguins now.  I can't wait for the regular season.

  2. Random guess Nj in one of there first few seasons?

  3. My guess has to be the 1992-93 and 1993-94 San Jose Sharks. They finished dead last during the "Lively Puck" season, then the following campaign, made a dramatic enough improvement (58 points from the previous season) to qualify for the playoffs (albeit with a losing record).

Great questions this morning (as usual) Homes! :)

  4. good, question baseball new york mets finished dead last 2005 won division by 13 games in 06 football if the jets can do something in the postseason it would be them and in hockey i would say the penguins in uhh 2006-2007 dead last--- 2007-2008 2nd in confrence made it to cup but lost :(

  5. Philadelphia Flyers this year, they went from very last in the league, to the playoffs, to one round away from the Stanley Cup. Even if they didn't win it, you could see the huge improvement in how they played, and in the Standings. Not sure if it was over 39 points, but Probably. I guess this would just be a guess then....

  6. I know the nordiques of the early nineties had a 32 or 53 point jump....they were putrid back then, i think one year they were 16-52 or something like that. they lost in the conference semis in 92-93, so the gap between 91-92 and 92-93 i think was 50-55. (the years that preceded that, they got three straight #1 picks, Sundin, Nolan and Lindros) which helped the team succeed once they left quebec after the lockout and went to colorado.

  7. In 03-04 the Hurricanes won 28 games, while the year after the lockout they won 52.  Probably not the most in history, but pretty good I'd say, and they did win 16 games in the post season which is the most important thing.

  8. The 1992 Nordiques had 52 points in 1993 they doubled that to 104.  This is in the Pre OTL days also.

As Snoop says the sharks going from 24 to 82 points would have to be the record I think- more than tripling their total from the previous year.
