Isn't it sad that this question doesn't seem as annoying now?

What Winter Classic is a better match up... last year's Sabres/Pens or this upcoming year's Wings/Blackhawks?

  1. Detroit's gonna win the cup, and next years Detroit/Chicago match up is better.

  2. Everyone else is being biased so I might as well be to.....Pens/Sabres.

    Lol, kidding.

All in all this years is a better match up......You have the 2008 Champs against the new young hot team. Plus they're both original six teams.

The Pens/Sabres one ment a lot more to me though because my team was playing in it.

  3. Leafs lol

  4. I'm looking forward to defending champs Red Wings vs. rivalry Blackhawks 4 sure! and they're 2 of the original 6!

  5. Carolina Hurricanes ( I'm only saying this because I live in the Carolinas)

  6. I would have to say Wings/Blackhawks because as far as I know Pens and Sabres don't seem to have a rivalry. The Wings and Blackhawks do and as you mentioned they are both original 6 teams and Detroit seems to have a difficult time beating Chicago. As well, Detroit is a very talented team and Chicago looks to be a very talented team in a few years.

  7. As much as i hate to say it, Detroit will repeat.  They didnt lose anybody significant (only Drake), the stole marian Hossa from my beloved Pens, and they remain in an easy division.  Detroit will play Montreal, and Detroit in 5

Blackhawks are a solid team tho.  They remind me of the Pens with all their young talent, combined with the leadership from the old.  However, last years winter classic will be better because 80000 fans and it was the beginning, so it wont be as special this year

  8. Wings/Hawks should be quite good. Buffalo/Pens was good too.

As I said recently, the problem with this question is not that it's not legit. It's that it's asked too often.

Okay, let's see: A few picks.

Habs and Pens are my favorites from the East, Detroit and San Jose or Dallas from the West, and the Hurricanes as a dark horse.

    I'm going to say a Habs-Detroit final.

  9. Canadiens for the Cup, and I am looking forward to the Wings/Hawks game, as it will be great exposure for the sport without premadonna Crosby getting all the attention.

How about getting Gordie Howe or Bobby Hull to drop the puck for the face-off ?

  10. Biased wings fan so I'm going to say this years... although the fact that it was snowing last year... i hope it does the same this year in chicago.

  11. Hi

Wow, early morning thinking with no coffee, you sure know how to abuse a man.  In just comparing the two choices of this years vs last years I am going with this years. Last years game I thought was very sloppy and almost had the appearance of being rigged. The ice was horrible, meaning the talented players couldn't show off their skills. Its one of the chief reasons i think these games should be played at night, as there will be a better chance of mother nature not getting involved.  This years match up offers more in the lines of history, both between the teams and the host site. Let us just hope the Cubs curse doesn't rub off on the Blackhawks. I also believe that these two team are both headed to the play offs and with the already existing long time rivalry there should be a lot more emotion. Overall though I have to agree with the people saying Edm and Mon. That game was on a different level.

    Thank You

  12. I think that the Red Wings/ Black Hawks is a better matchup because they're both origional 6 teams and all there games are usually close. But it will be hard for them to have a better game than the Pens/Sabres shootout finish last year.

The Stanley cup winner will be a repeat. The Detroit Red Wings haven't lost any players and aquired Hossa from the Pens. They are so far ahead of everybody. They were never really challenged by anybody in last years playoffs. The Pens walked by everybody and were completley shut down by the wings. They were the only ones that could shut down the superstars. It will be the Wings and Habs with the wings in 6.

  13. Duh! LOL.... Truthfully the Hawks being a much better team is good for the Wings, it makes them a little more battle tested heading into the playoffs. The previous few years it seemed like the WINGS went into the playoffs soft from playing the likes of a bad St Louis, Columbus, and Chicago team  for the majority of the last quarter of the season.

  14. last years game

  15. This years matchup is better if there has to be a reason for the gimmick. Two Original Six teams with a natural rivalry, sibling even.

The selection of the first WC game made some sense of the Oilers and the Canadiens - two dynasties in need of help.

The second was a gimmick game only to sell hockey on US National TV. It worked well didn't it? Just look at the networks crawling all over each other to carry a full season of games.

Maybe if we have a fight during this years classic that might help.

  16. Obviously the Wings/Blackhawks!!!! I am sooo excited for that game!!!

And the Wings have such an awesome chance to win the cup again, I wish it were hockey season already!

  17. Tampa Bay! Haha, man did they ever re-shape their roster.

  18. This year I think the Pens and the wings have a shot but i also think the blackhawks because they have good potenial but i think the flyers might win it.  I think Miller didn't have a great last year winter classic but that was still an awesome game. This years winter classic will be good because the red wings are very good but the blackhawks wouldn't let them win easy. I also think last year's was and will be better because there was a shootout then and i don't think that this  year there wl be a shootout

  19. the pittsbugh penquins

  20. Becuase I'm aa Sabres fan I'll say last yrs but you gotta love Wrigley for the history

  21. the Detroit redwings

  22. Honestly I can't wait for this years Classic as opposed to this past year.Toews/Sharp/Kane/Huet/Campbell against the best team this past season will make for a fun afternoon.Plus in Wrigley I can't wait to see what the Ivy looks like in snow.

Both being Original 6 teams is also a major plus.

  23. i'm a biased pens fan so of course it was last year's match-up.

but at least buffalo has a very strong following....who watches (or cares) in chicago?

    ***lol....forgot.....hungover....can't think straight....

i'm sure there's plenty of fans, they just kinda remind me of the pirates, in that they used to be good but haven't done shite in a few years (or as in the pirates case....decades upon decades).  people lose interest after awhile.

  24. the caps or the stars win the cup haha

i would hae liked to see a winter classic between dalls and the redwings or pitt and the caps (they could put it in nats park and get more tckets sold than the nats are  selling now it'd be great so maybe they could actaully pay off the stadium)

  25. If they actually end up fixing the ice problem ahead of time, the Wings/Blackhawks. But, so far, the Oilers/Habs game was the best all-time...out of the two.

  26. I don't think the question was all that annoying overall. But I can actually see the Wings having a good shot at repeating again.

I am liking the match up for this years Winter classic. Wings/ Hawks should be a really good game
