My cats are out-door cats now. This will be there first winter outside. I bought them a insulated, heated cat-house(thermostat+infrared bulb) What temperature should I set in the cat-house? What outside temp. can cats handle? The coldest it will get is low 20's.

  1. not alot id say 50 degrees

  2. Cats are warm blooded so freezing weather will affect them.  I would say if you kept the cat house above 50 to 55 degrees and brought the cats indoors when and if the temp really dips below freezing they should be fine.

Just for the record I don't believe in outdoor cats, but I can tell you are being very responsible with them.   Good luck and best wishes.

  3. My mother's poor outside cat never gets to come in and she's lived throgh below zero temperatures. Not to say that's good for her and I don't even allow my cats outside (except when I go out with them) but her cat is 12 years old and has survived very cold temps. I would keep the house at least 50F so they're comfy. Why are they going outside now?

  4. Please keep your kitty cats inside- not even just winter.  All year long.

Why you should keep kitties indoors:

  5. Gee whiz.  Can't you bring them into the house or garage or hallway?  It sounds so cold! Brrrrrrrrrrrr. Especially at night.

  6. I agree: cats like warmth, so you should let them indoors if it's very cold. Otherwise they may just vote with their paws and find a home they're allowed into!
