  1. Even though snow technically melts at 32 degrees F, i think it really depends on how much sun there is at the time. If it's sunny, snow can begin melting even when air temperatures are in the 20s because the sun's heat can heat the ground to above freezing. If it's cloudy or snowing, then it probably has to be at least 30-32 to begin to melt or turn into melt. It also depends on what type of surface we're talking about. For example, snow canbecome slush on roadways at cooler temperatures because the friction of vehicles' tires will warm the concrete faster. So usually, in order for snow to stick well to roadways, temperatures normally need to be below about 28-30 degrees. In grassy areas,  i'd say 32 would be the magic number.


  2. Well, since slush is a mixture of water and snow/ice, it can exist only at the melting point of water. So when the temperature rises to zero degrees Celsius, slush is formed. Upon further heating the slush will melt completely to water.
