Question:

What temperature should I set my two airconditioning units?

So I currently have both set at 78, but it seems as if the downstairs stays cool and the upstairs is warmer and the air runs all day. What temperatures should I set both at to balance out the hot air rises and cool air sinks theory? I would appreciate sensible answers. Thanks.

  1. Well there's no easy way to figure that out.  Trial and error would be best.  The problem is, if you don't have a door to keep the upstairs and downstairs seperate, then the downstairs will always be cooler than upstairs.  If that is the case, then I suggest setting the upstairs unit to a value that makes the upstairs feel comfortable.  Then I would set the unit downstairs to the same value to start.  Then slowly adjust the temperature downstairs over several hours until you feel it is a similar temperature downstairs.  In the end you're upstair AC will be set at a cooler temperature and run longer, and unfortunately there's no way around that.
