  1. Nice and surroundings, and it was given in 1860 for the help the French gave the Italians to chase the Austrians out of north Italy.

    All right, it was also invaded in 1792 but they took it back.


  2. The region known as Savoy which is the border of France, Italy and Switzerland and which was independent for many centuries  was annexed by France on March 24, 1860 according to the provisions of the Treaty of Turin.

    This was  part of the political agreement between the Royal House of Savoy  and Napoleon III that brought about the unification of Italy.
