  1. Some tests are earthquakes-if the plates separate on a fault then an earthquake happens, another is how mountains form-if 2 plates keep pushing against each other then a mountain forms. Hope i helped =D

He really had no convincing evidence except for the fact that fossils of the same creature tended to be on widely separated continents that must have therefore been together and the presence of tropical fossils in polar regions.  Also there was the striking correspondence between the coastlines of continents that have moved apart in the meantime, especially the Americas and the African and European coastlines.   It wasn't until about half a century later with the discovery of seafloor spreading and plate movements that his theory got any traction.
