I have been homeschooled all of my school years. I am turning 16 August 10th, and I am in 10th grade going into 11th grade. I am wanting to complete my Jun and Sen years at a school. What tests and other obligations do I have from being a homeschooler and going to pub. school? This is in Indiana, and I know its not as strict as like Maryland where I live right now. (Moving to Indiana). Thanks SO much and God bless!

  1. It's all going to depend on the school itself.

Because each school is governed at the district level and overseen at the state level, each school can make their own rules as to how they will treat incoming homeschooled students.  They can ask you to take a standardized test in order to place you at the proper level, they can take your credits from your homeschool transcript and just transfer them (as if you were transferring from a public or private school), or they can refuse your credits altogether and make you start back as a freshman in order to graduate.  All three practices are fairly common.

I would suggest to have your mom or dad call the school and find out what their stance is.  That way, if they require paperwork or testing, you'll have the summer to take care of that.  Also, if they are one of the schools that simply refuse homeschool credits across the board, you'll know that in time to make an informed decision about what to do.

Hope that helps - good luck!
