What tests to be done after i discovered i was pregnant?

i am in netherlands when i discovered i was pregnant through pregancy test which was positive i went to the doctor here to my utter surprise he didnot even check me ....asked me is there anything i can do for u ..its completely medieval no BP test nothing....not even prescribed any follic acid tablets which are essential for baby`s development ..we will be leaving to india next month ....is there any tests that are to be done? i went ahead and brought follic acid tablets from the pharmacy..the lady there told me that when women stop their birth control pills they start follic acid supplement ...i am very worried is there any test i am not taking...is my baby alrite guys plssssss help..is it ok to take follic acid supplement without the doctors recommendation?

  1. Of course it is. You are doing the right thing. Just make sure you are taking the right dose.

    You should have had a blood test to confirm the pregnancy and test for any diseases, and possibly a pap smear.

    The only other tests they usually do are later on, like a glucose test and ultrasounds etc..  


  2. Yes Folic acid is very good for the development of your baby. But you need more then just Folic acid.  Get some prenatal vitamins. That way you get folic acid AND all the other vitamins you need.  

    The test are not always done on the first visit.  You will have blood work done soon to check for STD, iron, organ functions, and other stuff.  I have had my blood drawn for 2 different times for different tests. I have another test for Gestational diabetes next appointment. They also did the lovely pap smear when I was about 12 weeks.  

    Right now you just need to start really taking care of yourself.  Don't worry I am sure they will test you for things soon enough.  So just be ready.
