  1. It is usually a sarcastic or playful term implying that a certain person should change something about themselves because they are doing something distasteful according to the person delivering the phrase.

  2. If you tell someone to get a life, you are expressing frustration with them because they do not have any interests or activities which you think would make their life interesting or worthwhile.

  3. It is sort of an insulting way to tell people to go away, or mind their own business, or to stop doing or saying something that bothers the person.

The origin of the meaning is basically, "stop worrying about me and get your own life."

  4. It means that the person addressed has been wasting himself on trivia and throwing his life away. The " get" is an Americanism.
