What the Vancouver Canucks need to do to finally win the Stanley Cup -NHL Special Part 1
The last two years have just been amazing for the Vancouver Canucks, but that is when you talk about the National Hockey League (NHL) regular season, other than that, their performance can be termed to be just outright horrible when it comes to actually
playing off in the postseason.
Back in 2011, the Vancouver Canucks ended off as the best time in the league and took home the Presidents’ Trophy for having the best regular season. They were expected to make the Stanley Cup Finals, and having a bit of struggles, they finally did manage
to get there but the way they ruined it was just awful.
Canadian fans took to the streets after the Vancouver Canucks lost Game Seven of the Stanley Cup Finals against the Boston Bruins at home, at the Rogers Arena, and it definitely sparked one of the biggest riots in Canada’s history.
The next season was high in terms of expectations fans had with the Vancouver Canucks. They played as usual during the regular season and did perform as well as they needed to by once again, winning the Presidents’ Trophy but it was in the playoffs that
their true colours shined. Roberto Luongo began choking once again and the Canucks were forced to bring in backup net minder, Corey Schneider. They were knocked out of the race by the Los Angeles Kings in the opening round, shocking fans as they saw the best
team in the NHL go down so easily.
A lot of drama has been circling around the Vancouver Canucks all offseason long as Roberto Luongo continues to make headlines about his frustration in staying with the Canucks club and wanting to leave as soon as possible. But now with a lockout in play,
it seems like doing so will be impossible for the Canucks as the teams he has in mind to continue playing are just not in need of a goalie, that too as expensive as Roberto Luongo.
Vancouver is still the best Canadian hockey franchise out there and has continue to break barriers these past few seasons, but not having a single Stanley Cup championship banner hanging in their arena is just embarrassing seeing how much talent the team
possesses.
Lord Stanley’s trophy is all the Vancouver Canucks want to achieve now, but will Corey Schneider be able to give them that same level of play which led them to winning the Presidents’ Trophy twice. What about the next season, and will they be able to play
with the same heart and soul with Roberto Luongo not in the net, since ending as the best team in the regular season is just not looking that significant any more when it comes to the real competition in the playoffs.
In the next part, we will talk about the things Vancouver Canucks need to do and improve on if they have any intentions of actually taking home the cup for the first time in their 40-year plus history or not.
