  1. That's like asking what's the average salary of a baseball player (somewhere between $330,000 and $25,000,000). It all depends on how good they are as they are mostly paid on commission. In that field you make what you earn.

  2. This is a very tough question to answer... Lots of variables.  It depends on the # of policies you write (new business), and renewals ( # of policy in force), different companies pay different commisions, different states premiums are higher than others.  Also depends if you are the agent or a producing agent for some one else.. I started an agency from scratch, and the first few years I put most of the $ i made back into the business. I tell others looking to get into the business not to expect to a big profit until the 3-5th year.  After the business the is established you should be making at least 50k a year at the very least..  however with most sales jobs the sky is the limit... Unlimited earning potential.   The idea is a snow ball effect over the years as you write new policies adding to your existing book of business, because you will continue to get renewal commission all of your policies.. the larger the book of business is the more you are making.    I know agent that make 50k a year and very few that make up to  2 mill a year.

  3. Check Salary.com.  You can search by job type and geographical area.

    Good luck!
