  1. This is not a complex subject and soes not require a complex answer. The answer is......... drumroll please.........

DO IT! Hit the ball. Make solid contact and follow through like any other shot. Just because it is shorter makes no difference. Shorter backswing shorter follow through but decisive and with a purpose. Two days ago I played with a friend of mine. We were both faced with the same shot, 15 yards, outside of the green, out of the rough, ball covered about 45-60% not deep not high up. Chipping up about two feet with the green level for about ten feet and sloping away after ten. I was away by about 1 foot. I performed my pre-shot routine and chipped to three and a half feet. HE..... performed the same exact shot, same exact tempo, same exact line. The clubhead smacked into the ground and stopped, his shot barely moved, the ball went about three feet and came to rest on the fringe. Chunked it! Why? He hesitated mid-swing. He slowed into it. He looked up. He didn't execute his shot. He planned on it but when it came time, there was so much more doubt than confidence and he didn't accelerate through, he didn't do what he wanted. He thinks he did but if he did it would have had the same result as mine. You see, there are two types of golfers, ones that will never break 90 and ones that will. The ones that don't have one thing in common, they believe that the shots are up to some other thing or entity than themself. Do you understand? They think it's up to fate. That one day they will be good and today isn't it but one day they will. There is no confidence, there is no decisiveness, there is no ACTION!!! ACT, and you will be rewarded.

  2. Chipping what distance...what club etc.?  On a short shot I use a swing like that of a pendelum clock, for a flop I hit more open and like a normal swing, and for a bump and run I turn my feet and quarter swing and use the face to do the work.  Get a lesson from a pro- thats the only advice.  You can't fix your golf swing online or in a magazine.

  3. It is just like putting, smooth pendulum stroke, and accelerate through the ball.  Just putt with the iron and your chipping will improve.

  4. Try to chip with an 8 iron. It has a straight face and it is a little easier on tight lies. Just remember that this game is better at this then us.

  5. There are quite a few different types of "chip" shots, but I'll assume you mean a low chip from just off the green that rolls to the hole.  Ball back in your open stance (near right heel), hands forward (in front of ball and clubhead).  Then just make a pendulum putting type stroke with no wrist break.  Hit crisply down on back of the ball popping it onto the green and allowing it to roll to the hole.

  6. Play the ball off the back of your foot. Keep your writs firm and take a smooth back and forward swing. I use an 8 iron but a 9 or wedge is OK for shorter shots.

  7. Try tilting your club head inward when you swing... that might help

  8. Phlem got it exactly right.  You don't need to hit the ball harder if you want to chip it a little further.  Just go down one club.  I practice chipping with everything from my 7 iron through to my SW.  I take the same swing each time.  My distance to the hole dictates my club selection.  It's much easier to develop a consistent swing for chipping than trying to use the same club from several distances.  Think of it this way.  Assume you hit a full 7 iron 150 yards.  Why would you try to power a 9 iron 150 yards?  you probably couldn't do it and you'd just end up duffing the shot.   The concept for chipping is no different.  Same swing, different distances, different clubs.

  9. While chipping, keep your weight forward and do not try to scoop the ball. With your weight forward you are more likely to get under the ball and then the club can do it's work. With your weight back you are more likely to blade or skull the ball and the chip is worthless.

Try using the same stroke on every chip and change the club for different distances. Find your distance for a 9, 7 and 5 iron.

  10. Unless you are a wristy player like Billy Casper was, try to keep the wrists out of the chip shot as much as possible. The chip should be more of a shoulder swing with a nice follow through. It should be smooth throughout from the backswing thru to the finish. You might also stay away from the wedges unless it is absolutely necessary to carry a hazard.Don't try to emulate Tiger or Phil unless you have hours to practice their techniques.

  11. i always resort to limp wrist. let the weight of your club head do the work
