  1. Head to your local sporting goods store and pick up a gun cleaning kit. It will contain:

    Bore cleaner ( Liquid )

    Oil

A sectional rod to clean the barrel

    cleaning pads

Use the bore cleaner , pads and rod to clean the barrel. Dry the barrel with more pads. Then use a fresh pad to put a thin coat of oil in the barrel.

Use the pads again with a slight coat of oil to clean the exterior. Lastly oil the moving parts. Beware not to get the barrel cleaner on the exterior of the gun in that it may blemish!

    Happy shooting!

  2. I only remove the chokes every 4th or 5th time I clean the barrel.... Believe me when I tell you this -- I clean my shotgun barrels with a large women's tampon! I'm not making this up!  They work fantastic. You dont have to keep sending patch after patch down the barrel... You could use a whole box of patches just to do a good cleaning but believe me a couple of run thru with the Lady's product works great!!!

  3. You need to follow the manufactures direction.

I will say that for the Barrel, get a bore snake. I use one for all my guns, and they work very well in shotguns. Also you should always remove your chokes, clean the threads(in the barrel, and the choke), and lightly lube before you replace. My father had a winchester that he never removed the choke. He was from a generation of no choke guns, so he just left a madified in, and cleaned. Some 15 years later, i was unable to remove the choke. A gun smith got it off, but ruined the choke with a set of pliers.

  4. save yourself the trouble and get a bore snake. also, yes remove the choke tube, clean out the threads real good

  5. FOLLOW THE TECHNOID'S CARE AND CLEANING IN THE FOLLOWING ARTICLE

  6. It all depends on the type of gun.  The quick and dirty way is to run a bore snake through the barrel with a gun solvent that will help break down any powder residue and help remove any plastic reminants from wads.  Then wipe the gun down, including all wood parts, inside and out with a gun oil.  This will help protect it from rust.

You should also removed the trigger assembly periodically and let it soak in a gun solvent to loosen up any residue.  Scrub all accessible parts with a soft brush (like an old tooth brush) and then blow it out with compressed air.

If you have an action shotgun, such as a pump or semi auto, it is alost important to clean and lightly lube those parts of the gun.  With a pump action remove the foreend and make sure it is clean of debris and put a light coat of oil on the magazine tube.

With a gas operated semit automatic, it is important to make sure that the gas ports in the barrel are clean and free of residue.  Also make sure the piston and recoil spring are clean, and check your o-rings to make sure they are not damaged.  With an intertia shot gun, make sure the spring and magazine tube are clean.  You will also want to remove the stock and clean the stock spring on inertia guns.

With both semi autos and pumps, also periodically remove the magazine tube spring and clean and oil it.  Its not unheard of to have the spring rust to the inside of the tube and make your gun a single shot.

  7. First, pick up a shotgun cleaning kit that will clean the gauge that you own.  Next, read the owner's manual on take down, cleaning and maintenance.  Follow these instructions to the letter.  Disassemble your shotgun as stated in the manual.  Do not go any further.  Usually, further disassembly needs to be done by a gunsmith or the manufacturer.

From there, you can clean your shotgun properly.  If the owner's manual does not explain it very well, there are instructions that come with your cleaning kit as well.

Regarding choke tubes, I usually remove them.  I have a choke tube brush and I clean it like I clean the barrel.  Use solvent to clean the threads.  Be sure to lubricate it when you are finished.

If you do this, you should be okay.
