I just broke my tank down because snails took it over. I know I can't use soaps but what can I use to disinfect the tank and filter?

  1. A bleach and water solution is fine.  Just rinse it well, and use some dechlorinator when you fill it back up.

For snail outbreaks, next time if there is one, float a piece of lettuce in the tank.  The snails will flock to it(I used to feed my snails I was breeding that way), remove the lettuce and dispose of it.  Continue doing that till there's no more, then just keep an eye out for any babies that may hatch.  Much easier then breaking down the tank :)

  2. Dead snails.

  3. viniger or lemon juice

  4. DONT USE BLEACH!! i would use salt solution and a new (unused) scowering pad (not metal ;)) make sure the tank is well rinsed, as for the filter it is probably full of snail eggs so you might be better off buying a replacement sponge/filter media.
