Chainsaw and guns (if not silenced) are fail, because they are too loud.

WWI trench spike, Katana (actual katana, not a replica/show one) is good for quick decapitation, Machete, and, of course, silenced pistols/rifles.

WWI trench spikes. They're designed for piercing helmets and skulls, and since you kill a zombie by destroying its brain, they'd work wonders.
