What the difference between a hollow point and a regular point bullet?

A hollow point bullet enters the target (human body) in a small hole and then expands rapidly due to the indentation in the tip of the slug.  This sprawling reaction is believed by the Feds to be useful in the event of the need for law enforcement agents to fire their weapons onboard a hijacked airplane, for example, because of the broader diperal within the target's body lessening the chance of the bullet exiting.
