What the difference between skateoarding and long boarding?

Besides the board. What is the difference?? I plan on starting one, but I can't decide which.

skateboards are used 4 tricks and long boards are used 4 cruzing around...i would choose a skateboard because it is way more fun

skateboarding is an extreme sport.  skateboards are for doing tricks..

longboards are like.. a form of transportation.

long boards are a bit faster and smoother to ride so are primarily used only as transportation, but they can also are used in slalom skating.

regular boards are of course shorter than long boards which allows them to flip and spin for tricks, the are used in street and vert skateboard and they can also be used as transportation as well but dont work quite as good as a long board.

so decide what kind of skating you think you are interested in and look for a board designed for that style, if ur not sure the differance between vert, street, and slalom

vert is basically what u see tony hawk do, you no with the huge half pipes

street is flip tricks done over obsticals on the street gaps, stairs, tables, rails, or anything else and is what u see most people doing and is by far the most common style.

slalom is just skating down hill as fast as u can inbetween cones similar to slalom in other sports.

long boarding has a bigger board and my friends love to long board but I like reagular skateboarding ( shorter board )

I'd go with short skateboading, because longboarding is just a way to get from here to there.

(that can get really boring)

regular skateboarding is a lot more fun, because there are always new tricks to learn.

ok i do both really well. heres the differences. and i know what im talking about. ok long boarding is kinda like a surf board substitute. they are around 4 foot long (on average) . and have different brands like sector nine for example. u cant do tricks but u can go probably 4x as fast as a regular skateboard. they're really nice for speed and turn great. all u do is the slightest lean and the board turns. the wheels are a lot smoother and have no ridges. they are also alot bigger. long boarding is really fun and chill and great. but if ur not into surfing dont let that turn you off of these. 'cause you dont have to like surfing. they're also just great fun.

on the other hand skateboarding is for tricks mostly. u do flip tricks ollies manuals etc. they aren't as fast as long boards def because long boards are more designed for cruising. unlike these. these aren't as fast. u take them off of ramps and are great fun. skateboarding offers great brands like plan B, birdhouse, baker, element, etc. they are great fun.

if ur a more of a cruising point-a-to-b kinda guy (or girl) and want yours more for transportation then take the long boards. they are amazing. and if ur not into that and kinda are more into tricks and grinding take the regular skateboard. you can search "long boarding" and "skateboarding" on youtube.com but when u search long boarding the vids are usually better to visualize. ill put some links below on places for both types of boards and good luck. have a lotta fun.
