  1. Both pump air into the motor in which more fuel can be added to produce more power. The primary difference is a supercharger is driven mechanically by a belt or gears coupled to the engine's rotating assemblies. Superchargers use either positive displacement lobes or screws to force the air into the motor. Some superchargers may use impellers to push the air into the motor. A turbo charger uses exhaust gasses to drive it - ducting the exhaust through a propeller (impeller) drives another impeller that pumps the air into the motor.  Both have bennefits, detriments and limitations. Pick the one that best suits your driving style and pocket book.
