tornados are when warm and cold air collide just right to form a rotating funnel

"Storm" is a generic term for an atmospheric disturbance that can mean anything from a rain shower to a hurricane, blizzard, etc.  A tornado is a violently rotating column of air which descends from a severe thunderstorm and is in contact with the ground.
