  2. There are no black holes in the solar system.

    A black hole, not technically a star, has the mass of a star. Like any star, falling into it is the least likely result. If a black hole, or any star, were to pass near the solar system its gravity would disrupt the planetary orbits and sling the planets away into space.

    The chances of a black hole approaching us are virtually zero for the next several billion years.

    It is quite difficult to get a real feeling for how huge and empty space truly is. There are places where two large galaxies are colliding with each other. Although the galaxies contain many billions of stars, the chance of any two stars colliding is very small. That’s because of the huge amount of space between them.
