it had nothing to do with $$$$ Sather had a personal problem with Avery and didnt want him for his own reasons. Avery makes this team much better when hes in the linup. (fact) and for every "dumb penalty" he takes he draws about 4. Anyone would rather spend 3.7M for Avery. its not asking to much...that was a bargin for the Rangers, But sadly Sather put himself before the team.

plus he pisses away 6.5M!!!!! on Reddin.....totally overpaid for him. pathetic. he was signed to help the powerplay?? look at his numbers the last 4 years on the PP.. def not worth 6.5M please.

This is no surprise. The Rangers pretty much said several weeks ago that they had no intention of bringing Avery back. They just don't think he's worth the kind of money he's asking for. He got almost $4 million a year from Dallas in a four year deal. That for a guy who takes bad penalties and won't even score 70 points? Wade Redden and Michal Roszival were both more important. It's a matter of priorities. Defense = championships. Running off at the mouth does not. Hence the decision to let Avery walk.

A huge mistake by Sather...We got a good defenceman with the aquisition of Redden...but we still have no hard hitting defenceman...and how bout a good winger, we got a bunch of centers, but where is the winger to score? And who is going to fill in Avery's shoes to be a pest?, Rissmiller? Voros?, You cant replace Avery with two random players that only know how to rack up penalty minutes!, Rangers need to pick up more useful players (Orpik maybe)
