What the heck are the Los Angeles Kings DOING?

Here's a team with currently $27.756 tied up in salary for next season; only problem is, the NHL requires teams to sit at least at $40.7 million. So where in the world are the Kings going to make up a required $12.944 million dollars in cap space, even with most free agents have signed with teams?

  1. Beats the c**p out of me. I, personally don't know what direction the Kings are going. They take 2 steps forward and 3 back... Why on God's green earth, would they trade Cammalleri, who happens to be in his prime?..They, did not sign a top tier free-agent, and they hiring of Terry Murray, was ridiculous. The entire L.A King organization needs a overhaul, starting with Tim Lewiski. The 2nd Largest market, and they continue to re-build. It will be another long season, perhaps residents at the bottom cellar in the Western Conference.

  2. they're trying to steal john tavares who will be the first pick next year from the lightning. yes im saying the lightning will finish last but its not because im a hater im a lightning fan but the lightning need john tavares

  3. They dealt away all their Top Dollar guys to clear way for a waive of RFAs to be re-signed over the next few years (personally I think its intentional sandbagging to get great draft choices every year for a few more years to add to their core of young high end draft picks) Their GM admits he is on a 3 year plan and this is the 2nd year. Notice they are very very young!

  4. I asked this question quite a while ago with a reference to the under spenders and over spenders.

It is obvious that the Kings aren't going to sign any big dollar free agents. So If they don't spend their $13MM to reach minimum they won't get any Canadian Dollars (equalization payments) to help them out. So they better make some wise moves.

Overspending on what they already have won't solve the problem. It will take them $6MM to sign their own RFA's to realistic contracts. So for another $7MM they can deal for Kubina and sign a mid $2MM free agent.

For Kubina Toronto will take under value for him. 2 seconds and a third should do well for a 31 year old Defenseman who will eat up the minutes (24 per game) and rank in the top 20 in defense scoring for a two year contract. He'd help Doughty over the hump.

A mid two forward is still out there for the asking.
