  1. There's a real man running for president?

    I thought Hillary fell out.

  2. That is the American way of life, we want what we want and be damned the consequences. Set aside the Global Warming issue, we are the most polluting and highest energy consuming nation on the planet. It is each of our own personal fault and responsibility. We have become a nation with no personal responsibility.

So I have been striving to live a sustainable life and I'm involved both locally and nationally with programs to change attitudes of individuals as well as elected officials.

Look at your life and see what you and your family are doing or not doing to contribute to the glutony of our nation and begin to be the change you want to see. The number of people in America willing to make a real difference is increasing, but the number is too small. There are so many people doing green washing and not making real enivironmental changes. The media is full of false information, we all need to take some time to see what the truth of our actions are and what we can change.

    Here are some ideas

Going green is easy, there are so many great resources about the subject. My personal favorite is "The Green Book" which has parts of its book online as well at www.readthegreenbook.com.

As I have been striving to "Go Green" I realize it is like stepping back in time without getting rid of my modern conveniences. I'm doing many things I learned as a child, like line drying my clothes, sweeping instead of vacuuming, opening the windows in the morning to catch the cool breeze, only buying what I need instead of everything that looks cool, growing some of my own food, and canning what I can't eat now.

To me "going Green" is a frame of mind. Do what fits your lifestyle and do the easy things first, it is a process and like dieting if you go to radical to soon, you are more likely to go back to bad habits. I also believe there are good, better, best choices in most things. If you aren't ready to start a home garden, then try finding a farmers market, until you locate one look for produce grown as close to home as possible and go organic when available.

Many people think "going green" is expensive, I disagree. Some changes may take an initial investment, but they usually have a short payoff time. Things like weatherstiping and insulation cost, but the energy savings will add up quickly. You may need to purchase reusable bags, but most stores give you a 5 or 10 cent credit, so you are paid back within a few months.

My top tips are make your home more energy efficient, that also means using natural light, cooling and heating.

Reduce your packaging, if you eat more fresh food you will generally reduce packaging, it's the same thing they tell dieters, shop the perimiter, that is where all the meat, dairy and produce are located. Only buy what you will use, many Americans throw away a lot of unused food. Buy in bulk, that doesn't just mean large packages, but that area with the bins that you buy only what you plan on using.

Replace disposable items with durable items, if you eat outside often and use disposable paper or plastic plates, it is a wise investment to purchase a set of reusable plastic plates. Replace disposable razors, diapers and cleaning products like swiffer. Avoid bottled water, get a home filter like Pur or Brita.

Recycle, www.earth911.org will help you locate the nearest recycle center. I try to only purchase plastics that are #1 or #2, they are more easily recycled. I also buy recycled products when available, that includes paper towels, napkings, toilet paper, tissue, school/office supplies and clothing.

Detox your cleaning, vinegar and baking soda clean almost anything, they can even losen a hair clog. Seventh Generation and Method are a couple mainstream brands that are very earth friendly.

Just start small and build from there, don't get overwhelmed.

  3. I see a lot of people who claim to have the answers, but I don't see anyone making the changes that need to be done.

People have been hollering chance in every election for the last 40 years.

But the same ones that are talking about change now are the same ones that think making illegal emigrants legal, and give them SSI benefits, in an era where SSI in not expected to last another 20 years.

is that the answer to an improved economy?

Take the money that American have spent their lives paying into, and giving it to those that snuck in across the border?

now lets look at the energy crisis, there are several solutions to replacing oil with alternative energy,

The first is electricity, we don't have enough of it to sustain our current usage plus the added strain of using it as a fuel also.

Next Hydrogen, which requires electricity to convert, also a strain on the power grid.

Bio-fuel, also requires an alternate fuel to convert.

Until we have enough solar, wing and geo-thermal plants in place to supply the extra strain on the power grid, we will still have to depend on Oil.

  4. First of all there is NOTHING wrong with pollution. Second, Illegal's are Great for this country. Third, the economy is to big. Fourth, we are having polar bear for dinner tonight. Fifth, we need ALL the oil we can get.

  5. why are americans so keen to deny things that may be a problem. "polar bears dying is a lie" there is solid proof of global warming. stop being so ignorant saying how good america is and think of how good it can be and ow it can reduce the damage it is inflicting on the earth. If we carry on the human race most likely will become extinct, but the earth will carry on start a new life form. Like the dinosaurs died out we came along. we are just going to kill our race and many others which cannot adapt to the changing climate. We have been the dominate for so many years after we die off another life form will be the dominate. we started off from bacteria the same will happen again. yes it will be the end to the life forms we know today, but a new generation of life take over.      OR MAYBE THE EARTH WILL END UP LIKE MARS? IS THAT WHATHAPPENEDD TO OTHER PLANETS THEY DESTROYEDTHEMSELVESS??????????

  6. Chill.......

point #1....yes there is polution, but the air and water in this country are cleaner than they have been in decades.

point#2....global warming happens every millenium, or so

point#3....unfortunately, Hillary lost out to Obama in the primaries.

the economy will adjust (as it always does in a capitalistic society)

and yes, we do need oil that bad

  7. I agree with you i have read about an alternative way of making water, water is one part hydrogen and one part oxygen by seperating the two parts we basically renew water.

  8. You would not be able to live for a month without anything that uses oil. Then you will find out you need it badly. Maybe you don't have to drive under perfect conditions for a month but there are way too many things you depend on that oil was a part in making.

You are psychotically panicking. If this is so terrible living in the world, then for Pete's sake, kill yourself and quit worrying.

No one will come crying to you anyhow and you wouldn't be able to hear them for all you sobbing and carrying on you are doing. Yes, the sky is falling and the world is coming to an end. Now what are you going to do about it?

  9. Stop going into a panic.  There are MANY things right with America and you are feeding into the lies of the liberals.

    goodness...THERE IS NO GLOBAL WARMING!

The world was in a much worse situation many many times.  You have not had your country bombed day and night like England and Europe..you have not gone through a depression...you have not lived in the cave man days where there was no electric and the conviences of today...you have not seen the end of the dinosaurs...(and the polar bears are not going extinct...that is another lie)....You have not been in a nuclear blast that has destroyed your country (Hiroshima)...you have not seen the plagues and the illnesses that are cured today from modern medicine...you have not see the low mortality of babies like in the past.... good grief...what are you so upset about?

Get positive... you have it so much better than any other age.  America has only gotten stronger and better ....good grief...we  are only 231 years and look at the progress we have made in that SHORT OF TIME!  We are the super power of the world...and look how old Europe is and they are worse off than we are!

Stop running around yelling the sky is falling chicken little!  The sky is bright and we have a great country !  The thing falling apart is putting another democrat in office that will raise taxes and get us into tons of trouble because he has no experience and he has no common sense!  but even if he were to get elected...we are AMERICA!  Be proud and stop being a liberal who is yelling how bad we have it.  We have it GREAT here!  The problem with you is you are young and you haven't see other countries !  Why do you think everyone wants to come here?  WE ARE THE BEST!

for once all of you should STAND UP FOR YOUR COUNTRY AND SEE THE GOOD AND POSITIVE IN IT instead of whining about things!

    Take a chill pill!
