What the heck is SIT & FIT on my check paystub?

On my check stub it shows the regular deductions of FICA, Medicare, & SDI.....but what the heck is FIT & SIT?

  1. federal income tax and state income tax


  2. SDI = State (California) Disability Insurance

    SIT = State (California) income tax.  Goes to the state's general fund, then to whatever the state legislature decides

    FIT = Federal income tax.  Goes to the IRS.

    FICA = Federal Insurance Contributions Act.  Goes to Social Security.

    Medicare = Medicare Tax

    SDI = State Disability Insurance

    FIT = Federal Income Tax

    SIT = State Income Tax
