Hello to all of the winter sports people! I just looked at some coats at Cabela's and decided on two possibilities. I will NOT be using these coats for any sort of winter sport. They are both "tri-climate" coats and that is what I need because I am in Michigan, I am a petite girl, and I get cold easily (It will be 19 here tomorrow). I have a Columbia and it stinks...the two coats I looked at have "powder skirts".....what IS that??? I know it has something to do with blocking snow but will it look funky if I wear this coat everyday? What is it??? Thanks!

  1. a powder skirt is on the inside of your coat and you button it and its clings to your body preventing any snow coming into your coat...i hope thats good enough

  2. a powder skirt is a short plaid skirt made of the same material as snow pants and is warn by women on the slopes

    haha

Its this thing in your coat that you button around your waste so that snow doesnt get up there when you dump it on your rump

  3. You wont be able to see the powder skirt, so it shouldnt cramp your style at all if you buy a coat that has one of these.  A powder skirt is an additional lining inside the coat that is normally just a waterproof apron, it usually dosnt have any insulation involved.  The whole purpose of this thing is to keep snow from getting in between your coat and your shirt (or ski layers if you are using the jacket for that.)  At the bottom of  the powder skirt there is going to be an elastic band that can be tightened around your waist to keep the skirt tight against your body, and still allow the coat to breathe and move freely without being overly constrictive.  Very nice for skiing, and it wont be noticeable in the real world either.
