Question:

What the heck is going on with Kerry Wood?

He got a blister on his finger or something and he hasn't pitched in a month. I take that back. He has pitched one or two innings but they were in meaningless situations where there was no real save opportunity. Is he still hurt? How could a blister cause all this?

  1. As a lifelong Cub fan I feel he is the epitome of the Cubs. So much potential, but it all ends there. He should be paying the Cubs to play. I wish I could get paid because of my potential, but I have to produce.

    GO CUBS GO

  2. Wood has been a mess since he entered the league. He is easily one of the most fragile pitchers in history. Him and Prior were so good, what a shame they both have as much desire to play injured as a crackhead has to get clean.

  3. I read somewhere he has a sore back too.

  4. He a wus thats to lazy to work for his money. He doesn't even deserve to be in the Bigs.He a thorn in the Cubbies side. Now his back is sore.Well,if he'd get off his fat %#^& and work alittle it might help

  5. when you try to throw a 97 mph fastball or a tight breaking slider it puts a lot of pressure on the blister so if you have a bad blister youd be going through a ton of pain everytime you make a pitch

pinella is working him into game situation he should be closing soon

  6. The blister wasn't healing, so as long as it wasn't healed, he couldn't pitch. It kept on opening back up.

  7. I don't know, in my own taste, this quy has been injured way too much in the last 10 years. And maybe some reason is to why, the Chicago Cubs keeps rushing him back, before he is compeltely healthy. Because if he wasn't, and on the DL, there would be more talk about him, ad any possible predictions of when he would be able to return, (in less of course he is out for the remander of the season). They are working to get him back to closing, I don't know why Lou Piniella decided this, since I am not him, but don't forget that he is the manger of the team.

  8. Blisters can keep a pitcher out for a while...and can be reoccurring. Josh Beckett used to have a lot of blister problems. When pitchers get them on their fingers..not only does it hurt to throw, but it changes the grip and details of the different pitches. As for Wood, he's healthy and off the DL, and has pitched twice since...just to get him ready to be the closer again.

"Aug 13: Wood's next relief appearance most likely will not be as the closer, but one more time in a setup role, the Cubs' web site reports. Wood has had no problems with his back, which sidelined him on Friday, or his finger, which had a blister and forced him to go on the disabled list."
