I work in a small office (I am one of three people) at reception. I started working where I am now about 2.5 months ago, and I have always gotten along well with everyone here.

However, the bookkeeper has been acting really strangely towards me for the last few days (since the start of the week). It seems as if she keeps have constant digs at me, tries blaming things on me, doesnt talk to me anymore otherwise - and just acts plain "nasty".

What should I do? Its been really unpleasant coming to work since she's been acting like this, and Ive tried talking to her to find out what the problem is, but she wont really open up. All I ever get to hear is "you just think about it".

I dont know what to do or what Ive done to p**s her off as much as I have.... I end up doing most of her work anyway when she leaves (at 3pm each day), and I've always tried to help her out alot in other circumstances as well.

  1. I would confront her....nicely ask if there's a problem.  If you're not comfortable doing that alone, perhaps there's a supervisor who could sit in on the conversation as a moderator-plus, then there's a witness to what is being said.  I agree that it makes work horrible when a co-worker acts that way.

  2. Listen Don't confront here in a judgement way and defend yourself-you'll make things worse.

Say this, "If I have offended you I am really sorry". "I don't know what I've done to hurt you but I am sorry"

Apologize. It doesn't matter if it's in her head or not she feels hurt for some reason and you can't deny her feelings. Just tell her you are sorry!

I also had a co-worker that I couldn't stand, constant digs at me. I almost hated her, then I felt bad for feeling that way so I sent her a birthday card! Which is totally out of character for me. She was so shocked she's be WAY nice to me every since! That was months ago.

I think my political views were different and she held a grudge-I think...? I now keep my views to myself.
