What the heck is this bug?

Question

I was cleaning out some papers that had been left on the floor, and this huge orange/brownish bug crawled out from underneath them. It was about two inches long, fairly slender. When it walked, it kinda rippled, but it didn't have enough legs to be a centipede, nor was it long enough.

What the heck could this thing be and can I get some info about it?

I'm sure it wasn't a cockroach, just for the record.
