I just got back from Super Walmart and almost everything I grabbed to put in my cart was expired.

I went to another grocery store thinking it might be better, but the produce was literally rotting on the shelves waiting to be sold. NO JOKE!!! ROTTEN!!! WITH MOLD!!!

I challenge you, Yahoo Answers community, to actually provide a real answer to this question and NOT report it, as usual, because you are some how offended.

  1. I  don't know where the h**l you are shopping or where you live on the Island, but here in Aguada/Aguadilla, the food at the friggin gas station mart isn't even dated. We just joined the CSA (interested? Ask the people at the Natural High Juice Bar in Rincon) and we always get fresh produce. We also joined the Sam's Club (I know, how sad. We have a lot of parties though) and the apples they sell in the plastic cases are fresh and tasty. So maybe shop somewhere else. Or you could, you know, grow your own.

  2. Oh please, don't you think they do the same back in the states? You must be really naive. You must be a real control freak. Get some expired food so you can get your antibodies working. People like you are weakening the human race with overly safe environments. Get over yourself and don't judge entire PR just for a few stores.

  3. I don't know about rotting and expired food in Puerto Rico because when I've been there I didn't experience that, but I can tell you that standards of quality vary greatly from country to country. Granted, Puerto Rico is within the US, but standards vary even within the continental US. It seems that in general the US has extraordinarily high standards of quality for food and medication. Consequently, so do its residents. Other countries (developed countries, like Canada and Spain) consume things after we in the US would discard them. Expiration dates are an approximation--a relative measure of effectiveness, often based on half life--but many Americans wouldn't take a pill a day later. I'm not advocating that you take expired medications, but rather to keep in mind that there are cultural differences at play to keep in mind. Some would say Americans are just careful, others might say we're neurotic. You can be the judge if that's good or bad.

  4. it also known that many "puertorricans" living in US fo many, many years, even when they live in the ghettos, when they go back to PR. all they do is criticise. They don't know better.must be that they idealize PR. as the perfect place in the planet.WHAT THE HECK IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE about PR?.  We have the same problems that any other stupid country may have," you better believe it"

. So you should complain to the store who was selling the rotten moldie products, not complain about the entire Island of PR. GOOFY!!!
