This is where you change gear just behind the steering wheel of a car rather than a conventional gear stick.

The name 'paddles' comes from the shape of the stalk you push or pull with your fingers to change gear.

The clutch is automatic so you flick the paddle and it changes gear.

The name of 'flappy paddles' generally came from the tv show Top Gear as the earlier systems were terrible.

Newer versions such as DSG, etc are fantastic and you can change gear far quicker than you could with a manual box.
