What the is the US doing giving arms too Georgia anyway with out telling us about it ?

This is the first time hearing about US arming Georgia . Did they vote for it under the cover of darkness . We need to pray that they have a cease fire soon !!!!

Picture this, a stranger comes and attacks your house killing your wife, kids, sisters, parents, w.e...and then your friend comes over and gives you a gun and says, protect yourself and find this guy and do what needs to be done, what will you do?  Be a pus*y and let the police "take care of it", or will you get up, and find the guy and make him pay for the murders of your relatives?

Just an illustration, and I hope you get my point.  The US and Georgia are allies.  If US didn't help Georgia, then we would have another enemy on top of those already...It isn't a major deal, just helping the US's friends out in time of need.

We have been aiding the Georgia republic for a few years. We even have advisers in country training right now. Hopefully we can get our soldiers out before it gets too bad.

Georgia is an ally of the US and have troops in Iraq. They are under an agreement, as an ally, for us to render aid if necessary, both financial and military. They are under attack!, from a hostile force!. I think that the Russians got the meesage to stop.

You shouldn't be so surprised. The US has always aided those it felt gave us a strategic advantage... be it in power, oil or removal from a (perceived) enemy. This is no different. You don't think we have been backing their wish to join NATO out of the goodness of our hearts, do you?

btw, those who insist on calling them our allies are incorrect. They are not yet our allies. They can only be once they join NATO.

the citizens of the usa don't know half of what goes on behind closed doors.  'you can't handle the truth' is a famous quote from a movie.  

anyway, what seems to happen is we arm our allies and those alliances change and shift til we are no longer allies.  eventually they end up using the very weapons we gave them 'back in the day' against us.

i could be wrong but isn't this what happened with bin laden initially or was it saddam ?

It had been going on for as far as I can remember. The US supplied weapons to the Afghan Mujahedeens to fight the Russians, supplied weapons to Saddam Hussein to fight the Iranians, supplied weapons to the Contra rebels to topple the Sandinistas, etc..

What I found puzzling is the hypocrisy behind it all (the US condemning Iran for supplying weapons to the Shiite militants in Iraq). If you're doing it, then why get mad at others for doing the same?.
