i got a 1.78 gpa freshman year, a 1.87 gpa sophomore, and a 3.5 gpa junior year so my chances for college is still pretty much alive. ive done extra currics like joining clubs and doing a lot of community service. decent SAT. u know i have a shot at a state school like SUNY or CUNY but my parents want me to go to fking Rutgers or a top east coast school or ivy league. you know how asian parents be strict and ****. i have no chance at rutgers or ivy league cuz theyre too selective. they said if i dont get in rutgers or an ivy league school, theyre going to send me to the army. im scared to death. they dont care about any other school i wanna apply to. my parents want me to go to a college of their choice, not MY choice.

  1. you can't be forced  to join the army, even by your parents.  Go ahead and apply to the schools you want.

  2. ugh…

    omg i luv u.

i'm part filipino so i kinda know how u feel.

i guess ur just going to have to show them the facts. go on collegeboard and do that "how do i stack up" where it compares ur GPA, rank, sat/act scores to the new freshman that they accepted. also show them that SUNY is friggin awesome! i love suny. show that its a great school to go to even though they not ivy league.

however i will say that u should have maybe one reach school. so maybe applying to rutgers wont be so bad. (if the application fee wont hurt u)

and about the military threat, i dont buy it. this shouldnt have been the last time asian parents said something completely crazy like that. but u know ur parents best.

    hope i was helpful.

  3. Apply to the colleges your parents want you to go to and when you don't get in they will have to start talking realistically about what schools you are going to be able to get into.  The army is volunteer only, your parents can't sign you up for the army you have to join on your own.  You seem to be a level headed kid, I'm sure you will do fine, good luck to you.

  4. omg thats aweful.. whatever u do.. dont let them send u to the army! what good will that do?! apply to whatever school U want to go to. when uve finally made up ur mind as to where your goin to college..(( u get into a college u wanna go to)) then try to tell them what u love about it... and maybe theyll understand. if that doesnt work, then BEG them to let u do what u want...(since they r the ones paying for ur college) :)  BE A MAN!..or woman! haha

  5. you should join the army it might smarten you up

  6. Apply to your selected college. Try to explain to your parents how the colleges of their choice are too selective. Try to make them understand. I feel your pain, I have Asian parents too but I'm still in 8th grade. If I get a B, I get grounded. And I've only done that once. =/

  7. I don't think you could get into an ivy league with those grades. You really have to have a consistently good gpa, and a 3.5 gpa with a 1.78 and a 1.87 places you around a 2.0 cumulative. If you go consistently well from now until you apply, you could pull you *** up to a 3.5 but that is not enough for ivy leagues.

They CANNOT "send" you into the army. The army is somethiing you have to sign up for and you have to be 18 in order to enlist. Your parents can do everything in their power to get you into the army, but unless you sign the forms you won't be in.

But to be honest, the army is not all bad. You can go to college while in the army, but I don't blame you for being scared to death. (p.s. Marines is better).

I think you should see if you can get scholarships and loans on your own and then you can apply to whatever school you want because they won't be paying for it. If they aren't paying for it, they can't tell you what to do.

Go ahead and apply at ivy leagues to make them happy, but also apply at SUNY and CUNY and state schools. Then if you are rejected from the ivy leagues but accepted to the state schools, just break the news to them that you will be paying for school on your own and going to the school of YOUR choice. And don't worry. There is nothing they can do to force you into the army. You cannot be enlisted unless you physically sign the papers.

  8. Just relax and see what It's like first before you go saying things.. if you don't like it then just leave

  9. There is absolutely no way for your parents to "send" you into the Army - or any other branch.  Even if you were under-age, you'd have to sign paperwork and they don't just kidnap people so your parents are just trying to scare you into their choice.

If you're not up to facing them again - write them a letter explaining your GPA and your personal choice.  You don't need them to fill out applications to other colleges either - go to your school counselor and they'll help you get information on whatever schools you're interested in and also help you fill out app's.

I know how Asian parents can be cause my mom is Korean, so if you're still not feeling up to confronting them or even the letter idea then just fill out the application to their school choices, most likely be denied. . .and go on with your hidden school-counselor-helping back-ups - cause once again. . .YOU CAN'T BE MADE TO GO INTO THE ARMY!!

    Good luck with everything!!

  10. Wow that is a real problem. I would tell them both exactly how you feel and if they do not listen then just ignore their wish and go on to do what YOU want. They will soon see how much you want to decide for yourself and any loving parents will eventually see sense.

  11. they cant force you to do anything. Legally

  12. If you're 18 years old, they can't send you into the military.

  13. Actually, judging by your "fkng" attitude, I'm surprised that your parents haven't refused to pay for any college at all... I suspect that a term in the military just might do you a world of good, or even a stretch in the local jail where you will gain a much better understanding of how the "fkng" world operates...Of course, that's just my "fkng" attitude, which I "fkng" don't think you will much like, or listen to for that "fkng" matter...

Good luck with the rest of your life, I think you'll need it.
