  1. Personally I don't like them.

    But in general, they are accepted.

    What can I say?

    They are stereotypes that contribute to the idea that Americans have of Mexico and Mexicans. Those characters and the portraying of Mexico in movies and TV shows confuse the rest of the world, that's why  some Americans think we still travel in donkeys, live in the wilderness and we are yelling all the time yeepa yeepa andele arriba, and of course, we are not.

    Sometime ago, I was traveling with my family and an American asked us where we were from, whe we said Mexico, he started saying: yeepa, yeepa andele arriba. :-s

    We all looked at each other like "what's the matter with this guy" and we stared laughing, not at him, but at the situation, he was really surprised. Speedy Gonzalez is an "American creation" so we don't relate. hahahaha. We all laughed together.


  2. I'm mexican (living in Mexico) and I like both characters, Bee Man was inspired by mexican comediant Chapulin Colorado and Speedy Gonzales is always more cliver than the evil gringo cat.

    In fact Bee Man is always funny and a good guy.

  3. Mmm.. Bee Man is almost indifferent character to me.. a good comic cameo when needed. Is with Speedy Gonzalez I have a problem with. I think is one of the main reasons for which most Americans believe we Mexicans still live in the XIX century or something like that. I have also noticed that 'strange coincidence' of SG (and all of the Mexican mice) being brown. So, yeah.. i think it's kinda racist, but is something I don't take too seriously.

  4. I don't know what a charapter is. What is racist about them. I don't think anyone likes the Simpsons beeman. He is just a ripoff of  John Belushi's character of the the original SNL cast's Killer Bees.

    Speedy is very popular here. There is even Mexican version of the Speedy Gonzalez song!
