  1. This is a website about Barcelona. It has tons of information about the city in general, history, culture etc. However, it also has links for good hotels, restaurants and attractions. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barcelona

A restaurant I enjoyed was Txapela. It's a tapas restaurant, and the best tapas are Basque, that explains the funny name. Txapela is on the Passeig de Gracia 8-10, so in the center of the city.

  2. old town name is 'Ciutat Vella' (literally 'old town' in catalan). Also is named 'Barri Gotic' (Gothic Quarter), because Cathedral and several churches are from Gothic style. Two good choices as hotels in this area are the recently restaured 'Le Meridien' (5 stars), in La Rambla, the main street of Ciutat Vella; or 'Neri H&R' (4 stars), a boutique hotel near the Cathedral.
