What the next step for getting my tattoo?

so i plan on getting a breast cancer ribbon (pink w/shading and a black outline) on my left ribcage.

I already know the place im going to, ive gotten some piercings there but not a tattoo, and it will be my first.

I went the other day and got an estimate ( its going to be 3 inches at the widest point) they said about 120$ and it would take an hour.

now should i visit the artist a few more times?

ive already looked at his book and know his style but are there other things i should discuss?i want the best expirence possible.

also, do you think i should have it drawn up ? its simple enough im thinking of having him free hand it.

and any last advice on rib cage tattoos??

  1. the rib cage is supposed to be the most painful part of the body to get tattooed.

  2. yeah shop around. you might find a shop you like more than the first one.

    and a better price.

it's an average price but for that size, you can find cheaper i bet

you can have them free hand it but have a hard copy just in case.

make sure you follow the after care instructions to the t.

keep putting lotion and sun block on it after it's healed to keep the color looking it's best

it will hurt but it's sooo worth it

  3. They can draw it first. so that you know what it's goin to look like. Then decide if you want it.

  4. Find someone that can draw what you want,Take that to the shop and have them do it.Talk to people who had ink done there. The books are not stuff that artist did,Its stuff he got off the web.Go to another shop and look at the books...they are all the same

  5. almost no tattoo artist do free hand tattooing. He will draw it up the day that you want it done, you will both look at it and make changes if needed. The only time the do a draw up before is if its large. Its going to be on bone so its going to hurt really bad. 120 is a pretty good price. I have two on my ankles that are about a inch and a half and they were 60 and 75 and took a half an hour each. I don't know what they use for ink so before you take anything or put anything on you call and ask what you can take for pain if you want to take anything. Make a data and go for it. Try you best not to move and good luck im sure it will turn out wonderfully.

  6. I would bring in a picture of what you want just to be sure (google it), but I really see no reason to visit the artist multiple times. It doesn't really matter what the artist's style is when you're getting a simple ribbon =)

I think all that's left to do is make an appointment, assuming that this shop is safe, clean, and professional (and friendly, of course!).

All you need to know is that yes, it's going to hurt! Especially on your ribcage (the bones being as close to the skin as they are). But since the tattoo isn't too big it won't be too hard to bare.

  7. you should ask past customers, research a bit more online and your're neighborhood.
