well i believe that the best music is that of which takes talent.  I prefer music with musical instruments oppose to 'beat machines' or whatever.  If you want to hear a technical, well put together band with great aura, listen to between the buried and me, its metal but asides form the screaming/growling its great.  And I think country doesnt get the respect that it should get!

best would be Indie rock and it's alt rock sort of intersection circa 95 - 98 or so (Pavement, Belle and Sebastian, Guided by Voices, Sonic Youth, Folk Implosion and Sebadoh, stuff like that)

I just can't do the modern pop country thing. It's the only genre that I've found where I can't find at least something that I was into. Granted I haven't really felt much inclination to try so I won't try to say that it doesn't exist.

I like all music from the 60's, 70's and 80's some 90's.  So Folk rock, classic rock, metal, glam rock.  the good stuff.  I cant stand rap/hip-hop though.  Some country music is good.

My favorite genres are "Underground Alternative" Rock (specifically from the 80's and 90's), Darkwave and Gothic Rock

My least favorite is mainstream Hip-Hop and Rap although I do enjoy a select few underground artists. The mainstream stuff just isn't intelligent enough for me.

okay, well obviously it's a matter of opinion.  Almost every genre out there has really amazing artists (yes even Country! check out Brad Paisley, that guy owns 99% of the guitar players out there) but also every genre has some really bad artists.  AND it's too bad you don't take the time to listen to death metal, that genre has some of the best bands in the world.  Anyways, with that said...here's my preferences
