My dad was at 24 hr fitness yesterday and someone broke into his locker and took $100, his credit card, and drivers liicense from his wallet.

He cancelled the credit card, which is now protectd, and of course he can't get the cash back.

The license was about to expire in 2 months, and he is gonna renew it early.

- But, are there any bad things that people can do with the stolen license that will affect him?

  1. yeah. apply for credit in his name. he should put an alert on his credit reports so if anyone tries to open a checking or credit account he will be notified.

  2. Your Dad is Officially a Victim of Identity Theft. The Thief can obtain Credit, open false email accounts, go to College and purchase a home under his name.   He should Immediately file a Police Report, Change his driver's License Number, Contact Federal Trade Commission and file a report, giving them the driver's license number, where he has lived and worked for at least the last 20 years or more and include a handwriting sample of at least one paragraph.  Send them via Certified Mail an Enlarged color photo of Himself.  Contact Social Security Administration and whatever he does Don't Change his social security number. He can also contact The United States postal Inspectors and file a report with them.

This may take quite a bit of time and money to correct it.  Might I also add that he cover himself and family from further Identity theft by contacting and using the services of ID WatchDog and Life lock or National Id Recovery Services.

  3. Possibly; he should contact the credit bureaus - contacting either Experian, Trans Union or Equifax will do the job -- and put a hold on his credit. That means that if someone tries to use his info to open a credit card, they will have to call your dad's phone first so that it can be verified. Sometimes other things in your wallet will have your social security # which is a dangerous thing to have in the hand of a thief.
