For me - using a reusable bottle or cup for water just because I don't want to have to keep getting up and walking to the bubbler and not washing my hair daily because I have huge amounts of hair and it is really curly so it takes too much work. I also don't let my kids where jeans or pants during the summer because they take up too much room in the washer and that way I have less laundry to do ( they can only where shorts and thin cheap ones at that)

  1. Never allow any lights to be turned on as long as there is daylight outside.  The kids only get 2 hours per day to choose between Xbox or TV show/Movie.  Reuse a bath towel more than one time - after all you are clean when you get out of the shower - or at least you are suppose to be...sometimes I have to send the kids back in to wash behing their ears.  Reuse plastic food containers like butter bowls, etc. for leftover foods.  On windy days hang laundry outside so they have that fresh crisp country air smell - I live in a very remote rural area.

  2. not over washing ,

    switching of power,

    hanging clothes to dry

    not having a private jet.

    composting organic wastes

  3. cheap: i reused plastic grocery bags or used fabric tote bags (that i got for free in the first place) at the grocery store to get the 3-5 cent discount per bag. and yes, i always checked the reciept to make sure i got the credit. i still do this actually.

lazy: instead of vacuuming the floors every day i used to sweep it with a broom, our carpeting is very flat so i could get away with it and it saved energy only using the vacuum every 2 or 3 days. heh.

  4. I found that I always was a "green" person. I hardly ever drive anywhere besides work.

My dryer broke down the other day so I hung my clothes outside. Good thing it was sunny!

  5. I reuse the plastic grocery bags for everything that I can: lunch bags, packing materials, bathroom trashbags, Halloween costumes, small sections of rope, cheap booties for walking around in the rain to keep my tennis shoes dry.

  6. I bought a vehicle with good gas mileage.   Thing is, before I used to walk or bike.

  7. When the dryer broke down late last summer, I started hanging out our clothes.  We started saving between 25%-50% off of our electric bill.  So even though the dryer is working again, the only thing we dry in it is towels.  Everything else goes on the line.

We also stopped driving so much when gas started going up, making one trip to town and doing all of the errands at one time instead of going several times a week.

We stopped drinking so many sodas because they had gone up and started drinking iced tea.  Now we don't fill up our recycling bin with empty bottles all of the time.  And as a side effect, we are healthier for it.
