I'm comsidering moving from NY to VA. I don't want to move unless I have a job lined up.

How much money should I save? I would like to move in 6-9 months.

I own my home and I'm a single mom.

  1. everything! like good schools, where ur going to live,a good doctor,a safe town or city, and probably more.but if ur like me i don't check those things out until after i get there.all in all i would just make sure you want to go and stay there b/c if it's what u really want then you can make it work.i wish u all the luck.

  2. Besides having a job lined up...consider the cost of living in your new area compared to your current area.  Check property values.  When you sell your home, will you be able to get something similar for the same price.  Also consider financing...right now it's harder to get loans than it was in the past.

Check out the area...do you want to live in a small town or a big city?  What are the schools like?  What is available for daycare...and cost?  Is there a church you like nearby?  Doctors, hospital, other medical facitlites?

Are your kids ready for a move?  Get them involved in looking at the possibilities and talk about the changes (both good and hard ones) and the great adventure it will be.  It will be much easier if your kids are excited about it or at least with you on it.

    Good luck!
