The Colosseum had a seating for about 50 000people, There were held the traditional gladiatorial games, many other public spectacles, such as mock sea battles (They were able to fill the Arena with Water so they could do seafights in it), animal hunts, executions (Christian Execution started later, not during Ceasers time, ), re-enactments of famous battles, and dramas based on Classical mythology.

For the Romans it was just entertaiment, like for us watching TV and wanted a Ruler or the Senate please the citizens or celebrate something they held these spectacular shows on the Colosseum
