  1. Might want to get off of your computer start now. go to a local gym. you won't be great by swimming in your pool. olympic sized pools are huge.

  2. if you can join a swim team; i am on one i can't tell you how many laps we swim. doing sprints will help like dive off one side and swim as fast as you can to the other get out and walk back to wear you started.  butterfly takes alot more endurance and muscle to do. work on building all types of muscle and do about 20 reps each if you have a ymca mebership they have a weight lift area that you go in a big circle that works really well

  3. The most important factor is technique. Here you should have the help of a very good coach (the better the coach the less you have to exercise to achieve the same results).

Exercises aren't as important, there have actually been Olympic swimmers that never been to the gym. A bio-mechanic (someone who checks joints, leverages, and so on to find the best exercises for you) or a good coach can help you here too.

I strongly recommend seeing a coach and get instructions for your technique.

  4. I would start by learning to swim. That always a very good place to start.

  5. Lats, bench presses, lunges, and dips.

  6. swim!

  7. You have to get a coach or a personal trainer who is experienced in coaching swimmers. If you don't have alot of money make friends with a good swimmer and invite them over to train in your pool. There are also some dvd's which you could watch.Plan on spending at least an hour dryland and 3 more in the pool each day if you want to make it to national level.

  8. You need a coach. This is something that cannot be done on your own.

he is going to train you how to swim and breathe and kick.

You will run through a series of exercise that will strengthen and tone.

You will eat a special diet that will give you the strength to perform

he is going to be the meanest person you will ever meet as he will push you hard every day to achieve that which you are capable of
