  1. Manually spin the drum and see if you hear any perculiar sounds, also see if the drum is loose, it shouldnt be (does it rock back and forth?)

And if it is pulled out check the water tube connectors (this is not that important, you can pick them up for little cost).

    Good luck.

  2. Check for all the odd socks that must be in there, they gotta go somewhere and thats the only explanation i can think of

  3. Make sure you witness the machine running thru a complete cycle from start to finish.  Some used washers will fill up with water and start agititating, but somewhere in the cycle they will just stop dead in its tracks.  if you witness a compete cycle (wash/spin/rince) at least you know the unit is cycling properly and that is usally where the malfuntion is in used washers, faulty or broken cycle timer.

I own a laundromat.  The only washers I ever bought for my laundromat and home are MAYTAG washers and dryers.  They are dependable, reliable, sturdy and run like a horse for 10 yrs without any repairs.  Stay away from the ROPER brands of washer. They are very cheaply constructed and it will not last for an extended period of time.

  4. Make sure it has a door on it!!

    Very very important!

  5. Try and get hold of a second hand Miele - they are the Rolls  Royce of washing machines and are designed to last for 20 years without needing any repairs. I have a Miele washer, dish washer, tumble dryer and fridge. They cost more new but they are built to last and are worth it.

  6. It is best to test it out first.  Make sure the drum spins and also see if you can hook it up and make sure every cycle works.
